Important to know

  • The $50 Alaska Business License renews every year and is separate from the biennial report, so an Alaska LLC pays the state something in every year rather than only in report years.
  • Foreign LLCs pay $200 for the biennial report against $100 for domestic.

Activities that do NOT require registration in Alaska

The following activities are explicitly carved out by statute. On their own, they do not require a foreign LLC to register in Alaska.

  • Maintaining, defending, or settling a lawsuit, other proceeding, or a claim
  • Holding meetings of the members or managers
  • Maintaining bank accounts
  • Selling through independent contractors
  • Soliciting or procuring orders that must be accepted outside Alaska before they bind
  • Creating or acquiring debt, mortgages, or security interests in real or personal property, as borrower or lender
  • Securing or collecting debts, or enforcing rights in property securing debts
  • Conducting an isolated transaction completed within 30 days that is not part of repeated similar transactions
  • Conducting affairs in interstate commerce
