How the numbers on this site are sourced, verified, and kept current, and how the site makes money.
Every filing fee, form name, processing time, and annual obligation on this site is taken from a primary source. For each state that means the Secretary of State filing pages and published fee schedules, the state tax agency pages for tax detail, and the state LLC statute itself for anything about triggers, penalties, or agent requirements. We do not copy figures from other guides or aggregators, because those are the sources that go stale and repeat each other's errors.
Each state page lists the sources it was built from. Where a figure comes from a specific statute, we cite the statute.
A number goes on a page only after it is confirmed against the state's own published page. When two sources disagree, the state's official page wins. Statute claims are checked against the actual statute text rather than a summary of it, because the summaries are often where the mistake is. When a claim cannot be confirmed against a primary source, it does not go on the page.
This applies to service claims too. We do not publish a statement about what a provider offers unless it is confirmed against that provider's own documentation.
Each state page shows the date its figures were last verified. Fees and forms are rechecked on a rolling basis and again when a state announces a change. If you find a figure that no longer matches the state's current page, tell us through the contact page and we will check it.
Where a page recommends a registered agent, the default recommendation is Northwest Registered Agent. The reasons are stated on the pages themselves: flat annual pricing with no first-year-then-jump structure, registered agent service in all 50 states, and privacy handling that keeps your address off the public filing. Recommendations are based on the terms of the service, not on the size of the commission. When a provider is a better fit for a specific situation, we say so.
This site earns affiliate commissions. When you follow a link to a partner and buy a service, we may receive a commission at no additional cost to you. The price you pay is the same whether you use our link or go direct. Our partners include Northwest Registered Agent, Registered Agents Inc, Harbor Compliance, and ZenBusiness through the Awin network, LegalZoom and Alliance Virtual Offices through Impact, Davinci Virtual through Refersion, and iPostal1 directly.
Commissions do not change the fee you pay and do not change which service a page recommends. We do not accept payment to insert a mention, and we do not run untracked or undisclosed commercial links. If a partner's claim cannot be verified, we do not publish it, even when the partner asks us to.
When a figure is found to be wrong, we correct it and update the verification date on the page. If you spot an error, the fastest way to get it fixed is the contact page.
